St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, 2020
My Dear brother Bishops,
It has come to my attention that at meeting of a group of Bishops of the NAORCC Archdiocese of California on 1/2/21, invalid resolutions were adopted;
1. “rejecting the proposed reunification Concordant (sic)” and;
2. establishing a body to provided “full day to day governance and decision making support to safeguard the office of the Presiding Bishop, by the Coadjutor Archbishop and the Council of Bishops.”
Let me state emphatically that this gathering and these resolutions have no validity, that they are under the canonical rubrics of disobedience and usurpation of authority, and that anyone who signs on to, or supports them in any way is in danger of immediate, ipso facto excommunication per Canon 1324, Canon 2199, Canon 2200 §1- §2, Canon 2209 §1-§7 , Canon 2122 §1-§4, Canon 2213 §1-§3, Canon 2331 §1-§2, Canon 2334 §1-§2, Canon 2336 §1, Canon 2344, Canon 2362, Canon 2394 §1-§3, Canon 2401, Canon 2404, and Canon 2406 §1-§2.
I will soon convene a mandatory meeting in thanksgiving for the fraternal, joyful, hierarchical Church which God has restored to us, and I desire that nothing should militate against this unity. Your presence at this meeting will indicate your faithfulness to our unified church and your gratefulness for the Gift of Authority given to us through myself and Archbishop Ford. Suggestions for a date are welcome.
In Christ,
Archbishop Joseph A. Vellone, D.D
